Catalogues

Research plays an important role at Hoogsteder & Hoogsteder. From 1985 to 1991 the gallery published The Hoogsteder Mercury, a magazine of art criticism. Later, Hoogsteder & Hoogsteder published a series of richly-illustrated art books. These extensive and frequently groundbreaking catalogues were accompanied by major exhibitions. Some of the paintings in these volumes were owned by Hoogsteder & Hoogsteder. Others were lent from private collections and museums. In case of interest, please contact Hoogsteder & Hoogsteder.

The Hague Painters of the Golden Age

The Hoogsteder Lexicon of all the painters active in The Hague 1600-1700. This beautiful catalogue accompanied the exhibition on The Hague painters organised by Hoogsteder & Hoogsteder in The Hague Historical Museum to mark 750 years of The Hague. The catalogue was produced in close collaboration with the Netherlands Institute for Art Histort (RKD). The publication contains several introductory essays which throw light on the painter's circle and the buying public against the background of the history of The Hague. Rembrandt's Academy

Rembrandt's Academy

This extensive catalogue accompanied the exhibition on Rembrandt's pupils organised by Hoogsteder & Hoogsteder in the Rembrandt year, 1992. In his introductory essay Professor Werner Sumowski describes the beauty of Rembrandt's art and that of his pupils. Paul Huys Janssen shows that the term 'School of Rembrandt' does little justice to the excellence of the work of Rembrandt's pupils. 'This theme is elaborated in the beautiful exhibition catalogue [...]. With his detailed analysis of the paintings and using the historical sources, Paul Huys Janssen opens a window into the painter's workshop, through which we can see the master as he teaches, surrounded by a group of pupils', Herman Rosenberg commented in Het Binnenhof.
