In the days preceding the auction the paintings were displayed in the Gothic Hall, allowing the public to take one last look at the royal collection. An indignant contemporary wrote beneath this print: ‘The Gallery of His Majesty King William Two, the Only, as it was on 10 August 1850 before the Demolition on 12-19 August by his Children.’
