Baron Arnold Nicolaas Justinus Maria van Brienen van de Groote Lindt (1839-1903), son of Willem Thierry van Brienen, who built today’s Hotel des Indes, acquired Lange Vijverberg 15 in 1865.

Arnold N.J.M. van Brienen was a chamberlain of King William III and later a member of the regency council during the minority of Queen Wilhelmina. He was married to Baroness Justina Rengers, in whose family the house on Vijverberg had remained for
several generations. It was thanks to the inheritance from his father that Arnold van Brienen was able to acquire the building from his wife’s family. It is now home to the Hoogsteder & Hoogsteder art gallery.
